How to Spot Fake Pet Supplement Reviews, and Why Mighty K9 Shows None Yet

Quick answer

Fake reviews are now illegal: an FTC rule from August 2024 bans fake and AI-generated reviews and testimonials. Watch for reviewers who seem to take the dog product themselves, oddly specific details that say nothing about the dog, perfect star patterns and sudden bursts of praise. That is why this site publishes no Mighty K9 review until one matches a real order.

Dogs cannot write reviews, so every pet product review is an owner's guess about how their dog feels. Read them with that in mind.

The law

What does the FTC fake review rule ban?

In August 2024 the Federal Trade Commission announced a final rule that bans fake reviews and testimonials, including ones written by AI. It also lets the FTC seek civil penalties from companies that break it (FTC, Fake reviews rule).

The point of the rule is simple. A review should come from a real person who actually used the product, not from a writer, a bot or the seller. Penalties put real money at stake for companies that ignore that.

A law does not clean up the internet overnight. Plenty of fake praise is still out there, and supplement pages are a common place to find it.

Why pets

Why are dog supplement reviews so easy to fake?

Dogs cannot report how they feel, so every review is an owner's impression. That makes honest reviews fuzzy and fake ones hard to disprove.

A real owner might see a "change" after a good week of weather, a new bed or simply more attention. A fake reviewer can write anything, because nobody can check a dog's joints through a screen. Add products with little research behind them, and reviews end up doing the job that studies should do. The FTC says testimonials alone cannot prove a health claim (FTC, Health claims).

Red flags

What are the red flags in pet supplement reviews?

The clearest sign is a review that could not have come from a dog owner using the product. The table lists what to watch for.

Common red flags in dog supplement reviews, and what to do when you see them. No single flag proves a fake; several together should make you doubt the whole page.
Red flagWhat it looks likeWhat to do

Specific but irrelevant detailLong lines about a car, a job or a cat, little about the dogLook for the dog's age, size and what changed

The FTC warns you cannot reliably spot fakes just by reading them (FTC, Evaluating reviews). Use the flags as a reason to dig, not a final verdict.

FTC tips

What does the FTC advise about judging online reviews?

Consider the source, compare sites and be wary of sudden bursts (FTC, Evaluating reviews). Those three habits catch more fakes than reading closely.

  • Source: who runs the page, and do they earn money from sales? This site does, as an authorized Mighty K9 shop.
  • Compare: look for the same product on sites the seller does not control.
  • Bursts: a pile of reviews in a short window is a warning sign.
  • Low stars: read the one- to three-star reviews first; they often say the most.

Our reviews

Why does this site show no Mighty K9 reviews yet?

A review goes up only when the order desk matches it to a real order.

Because we could not verify the reviews we were given. The seller's material came with sample reviews, a star score and order counts. Several red flags from the table showed up, including a reviewer who seemed to take the dog drops personally. None could be matched to a buyer, so we did not publish any of it, and we do not repeat its numbers.

No customer reviews are published here yet

Star scores, quotes and face photos from sales pages and seller briefs are not shown, because none could be matched to a real buyer. Reviews appear here only once they pass the four checks below.

  1. 1Order matched

A review goes live only after the order number and email match a real Mighty K9 order.

  2. 2Good and bad alike

Low ratings are published on the same terms as high ones, and nothing is edited except spelling.

  3. 3No paid or AI reviews

Federal rules ban fake reviews, reviews bought for a set opinion and AI-written testimonials.

  4. 4Health claims flagged

A review claiming a supplement can treat a disease gets a clear note, never a highlight.

No reviews at all looks less persuasive than a wall of praise. We think that is the honest trade. Read how we check reviews and our editorial standards.

Your turn

How do you write a useful review of a dog supplement?

Describe your dog, what you measured and how long you tried it. Facts help other owners more than feelings.

  1. Describe the dog

Age, breed or size, weight and any vet diagnosis.

  2. Set a baseline

Film stairs, rising and a short walk on day 1.

  3. Track the same things

Same video on day 20 and day 30. Note other changes, like a new diet.

  4. Report the bad too

Upset stomach, a dog that refused the food, or no change at all.

For Mighty K9, the sales FAQ says changes may show in two to three weeks, with fuller results at eight to twelve. No study backs those dates, so note your day count. See the results timeline.

What to trust

What should you trust instead of star ratings?

Trust the label, published research and your vet. A label is checkable; ratings are not.

FAQ

Fake pet supplement reviews FAQ

Are fake reviews illegal in the US?

Yes. An FTC rule announced in August 2024 bans fake reviews and testimonials, including AI-generated ones, and lets the FTC seek civil penalties. Plenty of fake praise is still online, so it pays to read with care.

How can you tell if a pet product review is fake?

You often cannot be sure from the text alone, the FTC says. Look for warning signs: a reviewer who takes the dog product, details unrelated to the dog, near-perfect star patterns and bursts on the same dates. Then compare sites the seller does not control.

Are Mighty K9 reviews real?

This site has not published any, because none could be verified yet. The seller supplied sample reviews and scores that showed red flags, so we left them out. A review is published only when the order desk matches it to a real order.

Why does Mighty K9 have no star rating here?

A star rating is only as honest as the reviews behind it. No verified, order-matched reviews exist yet, so we show no rating at all. Publishing the seller's sample score would break our standards and could break FTC rules.

Can AI write fake product reviews?

Yes, and the FTC's 2024 rule specifically bans AI-generated fake reviews and testimonials. AI text can sound natural, so watch for sameness: similar phrasing, length and rhythm across many reviews, often posted close together.

Where can I find honest dog supplement reviews?

Look on sites the seller does not control, read the low-star reviews first, and favor reviews that give the dog's age, size and diagnosis. Your vet is a better guide than any rating, because they know your dog's history.

What should I include in a review of my dog's supplement?

Your dog's age, size and diagnosis, how long you used it, what you measured and any side effects. Day 1 and day 30 videos of rising or stairs make your notes far more useful to other owners.
