Safety

Mighty K9 side effects: what can go wrong and what to do

Quick answer

Mighty K9 is nearly pure olive oil, so the likeliest problems come from fat: an upset stomach, loose stools and, in prone dogs, pancreatitis. Each serving adds 16.2 calories. No long-term dog safety data exists. Stop and call your vet if your dog vomits, has belly pain or stops eating.

At a glance

What are the possible side effects of Mighty K9?

Most risks come from the oil itself, because nearly every drop of Mighty K9 is fat. The rest come from what nobody has studied yet.

No study has tracked side effects of any C60 product in dogs (PubMed search, C60 in dogs), so this list comes from the label and what vets know about fat.

Digestion

Can Mighty K9 cause diarrhea or an upset stomach?

It can. A daily dose of oil is new fat for the gut, and some dogs react with soft stools, gas or a skipped meal. Each serving is about 1.8 g of olive oil, which has 884 calories per 100 g (USDA, Olive oil).

  • Always pour it over food. Do not give it on an empty stomach.
  • Ask your vet whether a smaller amount makes sense for a toy breed or a touchy stomach.
  • Pause the drops if stools stay loose for more than a day or two, and call your vet.

Diarrhea with vomiting or belly pain can mean pancreatitis. More mixing tips are on the how to use page.

The big one

Can Mighty K9 cause pancreatitis in dogs?

It could in a dog that is prone to it, because Mighty K9 is 100% fat. A high-fat diet is a major cause of pancreatitis, and one large fatty helping can set off an attack or a relapse (AKC, Pancreatitis).

The Merck Veterinary Manual lists eating fatty or unusual food as a common risk factor. Miniature Schnauzers are overrepresented, and a low-fat diet is a key part of treatment (Merck Vet Manual, Pancreatitis).

Pancreatitis history or a low-fat diet?

Do not start Mighty K9 without your vet's okay. Signs of an attack include vomiting, belly pain and diarrhea. Call your vet the same day if you see them.

Calories

Could Mighty K9 put weight on my dog?

Not by itself in most dogs, but small dogs feel the 16.2 kcal per serving. Vets suggest extras stay under 10% of a dog's daily calories, about 47 kcal for a 10 kg dog (WSAVA, Treats). One serving is about 5% of the day for a 10 lb dog, and well under 2% for a 50 lb dog. Cut a treat to make room. Check your own dog on the serving size by weight page.

What nobody knows yet

Is C60 safe for dogs long term?

Nobody knows. There are no long-term safety studies of C60 in dogs, and a 2024 review found none in people either (Ozdemir 2024, review).

Light

Light-damaged oil

In a 2021 study, C60 oil left in bright light for 4 to 8 days killed about 25% to 50% of the mice dosed with it within 14 days (Grohn 2021, mice). Store the bottle closed, in a dark cupboard, away from heat (IOC, Olive oil storage).

Time

Short safety data

The main safety study gave rats C60 oil for only 14 days. It found no treatment-related harm, but it was funded by a company that sells C60 oil (Burres 2024, rat safety). Months of daily use in dogs is untested.

Flavor

Accidents and medicines

What if my dog drinks the whole bottle or takes other medicine?

Call your vet or a poison line if your dog gets into the bottle. The product page warns: "For canine use only. Keep out of reach of children and animals. In case of accidental overdose, contact a health professional immediately." A full bottle is 60 mL of oil and 486 calories in one go, the kind of fatty binge that can trigger pancreatitis.

If your dog swallowed a lot or seems unwell

Call your vet, or an animal poison line: Pet Poison Helpline (855) 764-7661 ($89 per incident) (Pet Poison Helpline) or ASPCA Animal Poison Control (888) 426-4435 (a fee may apply) (ASPCA, Poison Control). Both answer 24 hours a day. Have the bottle in hand.

Drug interactions have never been studied. Supplements can interact with medicines and with diet, so put Mighty K9 on the list your vet sees (Tufts Petfoodology, Sensible use). Human pain relievers such as ibuprofen and naproxen are unsafe for dogs (FDA, Pet pain relievers).

When to act

When should I stop Mighty K9 and call the vet?

FAQ

Mighty K9 side effects FAQ

What side effects can Mighty K9 cause?

The most likely side effects are an upset stomach or loose stools from the added fat. In dogs prone to pancreatitis, a daily oil serving could trigger an attack. Each serving also adds 16.2 calories. No study has tracked side effects of Mighty K9 in dogs.

Is Mighty K9 safe for dogs with pancreatitis?

Only with your vet's okay. Mighty K9 is 100% fat, and high-fat food is a major trigger for pancreatitis attacks and relapses. Dogs on a low-fat diet and breeds at higher risk, such as Miniature Schnauzers, need a vet check before the first serving.

What happens if my dog drinks a whole bottle of Mighty K9?

Call your vet or an animal poison line right away. A full bottle is 60 mL of oil, about 486 calories of fat at once, which could upset the stomach or trigger pancreatitis. Keep the bottle handy so you can read the label on the phone.

Can Mighty K9 go bad?

It can. Light is the main threat to olive oil, and a 2021 mouse study found C60 oil left in bright light turned toxic. Store the bottle tightly closed in a dark cupboard away from heat. Do not use oil that smells rancid or looks cloudy.

Can I give Mighty K9 with carprofen or other dog medicines?

No interaction study exists, so ask your vet first. Supplements can interact with medicines and with diet, and your vet should see the full list. Mighty K9 does not replace a prescribed pain medicine, and human pain relievers are not safe for dogs.

Should I report a reaction to Mighty K9?

Yes. Report it through FDA's Safety Reporting Portal with the lot number, best-by date, where you bought it and your vet's records. Keep the bottle. Also call the order desk with your order ID so the seller knows about the problem.
